Wondering how many hours to set aside for your cleaning appointment? From our experience across Metro Vancouver, a move-out clean normally takes about 5 hours for a one-bedroom, one-bathroom home, 5 hours for a two-bedroom home, and 6 hours for a three-bedroom home with one cleaner. Standard cleaning runs about 2 hours less than that, and deep cleaning about 1 hour less, for a comparable home. Send two cleaners and the visit takes roughly half the time.
The tables below are planning estimates to help you block out your day. They describe how long the visit itself lasts. With MaidEX, home cleaning is priced by clear, flat-rate packages, so you see the number before you book and it doesn't change based on how long the day takes — or you can book by the hour at $37.50/hour for your first clean, 3-hour minimum.
Move-out cleaning times
Move-out cleaning is detailed work to get a home ready for its next occupants, so the condition of the kitchen, bathrooms, cupboards and appliance interiors affects the time even when the home is empty.
| Home | 1 cleaner · normal | 2 cleaners · normal | 1 cleaner · 2+ months | 2 cleaners · 2+ months |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 bed / 1 bath | 5 hours | 2.5 hours | 7 hours | 3.5 hours |
| 2-bedroom | 5 hours | 2.5 hours | 6–7 hours | 3–3.5 hours |
| 3-bedroom | 6 hours | 3 hours | 7–8 hours | 3.5–4 hours |
For example, a two-bedroom move-out clean normally takes about 5 hours with one cleaner. If the home hasn't been cleaned in more than two months, allow about 6–7 hours. With two cleaners, those become roughly 2.5 hours and 3–3.5 hours.
Standard cleaning times
Standard cleaning keeps kitchens, bathrooms, floors and surfaces in good shape. For these home sizes, allow about 2 fewer hours with one cleaner than the move-out estimate.
| Home | 1 cleaner · normal | 2 cleaners · normal | 1 cleaner · 2+ months | 2 cleaners · 2+ months |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 bed / 1 bath | 3 hours | 1.5 hours | 5 hours | 2.5 hours |
| 2-bedroom | 3 hours | 1.5 hours | 4–5 hours | 2–2.5 hours |
| 3-bedroom | 4 hours | 2 hours | 5–6 hours | 2.5–3 hours |
If a long gap has left heavier buildup, a deep clean is often the better match for the work the home needs.
Deep cleaning times
Deep cleaning puts more time into buildup and the areas a standard visit doesn't reach. Allow about 1 fewer hour with one cleaner than the move-out estimate.
| Home | 1 cleaner · normal | 2 cleaners · normal | 1 cleaner · 2+ months | 2 cleaners · 2+ months |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 bed / 1 bath | 4 hours | 2 hours | 6 hours | 3 hours |
| 2-bedroom | 4 hours | 2 hours | 5–6 hours | 2.5–3 hours |
| 3-bedroom | 5 hours | 2.5 hours | 6–7 hours | 3–3.5 hours |
These are planning estimates, not promises — the real time depends on your home's condition and the add-ons you choose. See your exact price on the cost calculator or the booking form.
Why a home left over two months takes longer
When a home hasn't been cleaned in a while, dust settles, kitchen grease builds up and bathroom residue sets — so the same tasks simply take longer. From our experience, the usual extra allowance with one cleaner is:
- 1 bed / 1 bath: about 2 extra hours (about 1 extra hour with two cleaners).
- 2-bedroom: about 1–2 extra hours (about 30–60 extra minutes with two cleaners).
- 3-bedroom: about 1–2 extra hours (about 30–60 extra minutes with two cleaners).
These allowances are already included in the “2+ months” columns above — you don't need to add them again. Heavier buildup can still push the time higher.
One cleaner or two: visit time vs. cleaner-hours
Two cleaners divide the work and clean different areas at once, so the visit finishes sooner — but the amount of work is about the same. A clean that takes one cleaner 6 hours is roughly 6 cleaner-hours of work; send two cleaners and the visit is over in about 3 hours, still around 6 cleaner-hours, just completed faster because two people are working through it together. So the one-cleaner columns tell you both the visit length and the total effort, while the two-cleaner columns show the shorter visit length for that same effort.
What else changes the time
The estimates above are home-size guides. In practice, the number of bathrooms, the floor area, clutter, any add-on tasks, how easily the areas can be reached, and heavier-than-usual buildup all move the number up or down. The two- and three-bedroom examples don't assume a set number of bathrooms, so tell us how many you have and we'll plan accordingly.
A little prep helps the visit run to estimate: clear loose items from floors and surfaces, and let us know when the home was last cleaned. For a move-out clean, having belongings removed lets our cleaners reach the areas that need the most attention. Curious about the price side? Read how much house cleaning costs in Vancouver.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a move-out clean take?
From our experience in Metro Vancouver, a move-out clean with one cleaner normally takes about 5 hours for a one-bedroom, one-bathroom home, about 5 hours for a two-bedroom, and about 6 hours for a three-bedroom. Two cleaners finish in roughly half that time. A home not cleaned in over two months takes longer.
How long does a standard house cleaning take?
Allow about 2 fewer hours than the move-out estimate with one cleaner — roughly 3 hours for a one or two-bedroom home and about 4 hours for a three-bedroom. A team of two finishes in about half that time.
How long does a deep clean take?
A deep clean runs about 1 hour less than a move-out clean with one cleaner — around 4 hours for a one or two-bedroom home and about 5 hours for a three-bedroom. Two cleaners finish in roughly half the time.
Does hiring two cleaners make it faster?
Yes. Two cleaners divide the work and clean different areas at once, so the visit finishes in roughly half the time of a single cleaner. The amount of work is about the same — a clean that takes one cleaner 6 hours is about 6 cleaner-hours either way; two cleaners just complete it faster.
Why does a home that hasn't been cleaned in months take longer?
Dust settles, kitchen grease builds up and bathroom residue sets, so the same tasks take longer. For a home not cleaned in over two months we usually allow about 2 extra hours for a one-bed/one-bath and about 1–2 extra hours for a two or three-bedroom, with one cleaner. Heavier buildup can take longer still.
Do I pay more if the clean takes longer?
Not with a flat-rate package — you see the price before you book and pay exactly that, no matter how the day goes. If you book by the hour instead ($37.50/hour for your first clean, 3-hour minimum), you only pay for the time your priorities need.
